Dr. Andrew Kambugu
Dr. Andrew Kambugu is IDI’s Executive Director ─ effective July 1, 2018. He has been the Head of IDI’s Research Program at Makerere University College of Health Sciences (MakCHS). Dr. Kambugu ─ an adjunct Assoc. Prof. at the University of Minnesota, USA, is honorary Senior Lecturer in the Dept. of Medicine MakCHS. He is a medical doctor with a Masters in Internal Medicine ─ both from Makerere University. He also has specialist training in infectious diseases from the Universities of Utah and Manitoba; and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, UK.Dr. Kambugu brings extensive knowledge on infectious diseases and a strong commitment to strengthening health systems in Africa. For over 14 years, he has built partnerships and collaborated with global health players to translate research into policy. He is what we imagined in our next leader ─ Rev. Prof. Sam Luboga, the IDI board chairman.
In his other roles, Dr. Kambugu is the Chair, Uganda Society for Health Scientists Board and Vice President of the Researchers for Global Health (R4GH) group.
