Dr. Isaac Lwanga

Deputy Head of Prevention, Care and Treatment

Dr. Isaac Lwanga is the Deputy Head of the Prevention, Care and Treatment Department of the Infectious Diseases Institute. A physician by training with special interest in infectious diseases, he has over 20 years’ experience in HIV/AIDS clinical care and management. He has worked as a senior clinician with a number of other HIV/AIDS care-providing institutions including The Aids Support Organization (TASO) and the National Referral Hospital of Mulago in Kampala Uganda.

Through his excellent leadership and managerial skills, he has spearheaded the design and implementation of some of the best innovative HIV care models at IDI which include TB/HIV integrated management. His most recent area of interest is at the interface of HIV and Aging and has spearheaded the establishment of geriatric HIV care services at the Adult Infectious Diseases Clinic of the institute. His additional areas of interest include medical training and clinical mentoring of various cadres of health care providers.
